After a long year of trying to figure out life... I'm back! Around this time last year, I was graduating with my graduate degree from the University of Central Florida and deciding on what the next move would be. A few weeks before I graduated, my advisor reached out to me about a temporary position at the university that could lead to something permanent.
The uncertainty of it all really discouraged me, but I loved working there (I was a graduate assistant while I was in school) and decided to take a chance. Needless to say, I was working with the best people and quickly realized the opportunities that this job could provide. My boss is ahhhmazing and she did everything to create my position and keep me employed.
Fast-forward to 2017.
This year has opened my eyes to so much. I've worked on awesome projects at work and independently, I've traveled with the people I love, and really began to understand my purpose. Life, of course, has thrown many curveballs my way but through Christ, everything is possible! One of my goals for this year is to work on my time management. Who knows if I'll ever get it right...
Last month, the college I received my graduate degree from released an article about my Black in Brazil project and it truly pushed me to keep going. Although I am passionate about it, I had to take a step back and consider what my goals are and steps to achieve them. I'm excited for what's to come! In the meantime, check out the stories posted and stay tuned for upcoming features.
I've had the pleasure of working with amazing entrepreneurs this year to help create their brand identities and take their businesses to a higher level! Part of working on my time management is to make sure I always prioritize personal and freelance creative work.
Although it hasn't been easy, it's definitely rewarding! I love bringing people's visions to life. As always, THANK YOU! Thank you for supporting, encouraging, and pushing me.
Earlier in May, the University of Central Florida held its downtown campus groundbreaking. To describe that moment as amazing is an understatement. I'm very excited for the future of this city I call home and the impact that UCF will have on the community it serves. So... how do I fit into all of this? Well, I was given the task to work with a talented group of people to design a gallery for the groundbreaking. I've never designed a gallery before, so this was truly a project that allowed for growth. Pictures and a video from the gallery are below! (click to scroll through)
This blog post was supposed to be released in the beginning of June but of course... life happened. No excuse though, I should've gotten back to it. Between then and now, I've attended Her Conference in New York, an awesome conference focusing on young women starting and early in their careers in fields like entertainment, media, public relations, design, etc. It was a great and motivating experience!
What really kept me busy and a little crazy was getting engaged... and shortly after, married! So, we chose to do something a little different and get married on our anniversary. We had a very small and intimate wedding just for family and those like family. I always thought I needed to have this huge and fancy wedding, because it’s what every girl talks about and what we’re sold all of our lives. But, we decided our goals were different… if we’re going to spend thousands of dollars, it’s going to be on our dream home or vacations or just about anything else. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love attending weddings ;) I just don’t like paying for them lol.
I am very appreciative of the love and support from all of you.
